The National TCM Teams dispatched to Wuhan, the Integration of TCM and Western Medicine Shows Efficacy

The National Health Commission and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly set up the coordinating mechanism of the integration of TCM and western medicine. TCM was included in the third, fourth and fifth version of the national diagnosis and treatment scheme. Such academicians and experts as Zhang Boli, Huang Luqi, Tong Xiaolin and Liu Qingquan, went to Wuhan and carried out TCM diagnoses and treatments.

Three national TCM teams with over 340 members were set up and dispatched to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Hubei Provincial Integrated Chinese and Western Hospital and Jiangxia Dahuashan Outdoor Sports Center Cabin Hospital. Till now, 1,253 TCM professionals were dispatched to Wuhan, including 246 doctors, 970 nurses, 13 technical workers, 17 infection control workers, and 7 administrative.

On Jan 25th, the Spring Festival, the first national TCM team was dispatched to Wuhan. It was composed of 24 members from Xiyuan Hospital and Guanganmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. The team was led by Yan Shujang, Vice Commissioner of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and in the charge of Huang Luqi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

On Jan 27th, the second national TCM team was dispatched to Hubei Provincial Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. It was composed of over 100 members from Dongzhimen Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Dongfang Hospital Affiliated to BUCM, the First Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong TCM Hospital, and the Second TCM Hospital of Guangdong. It was led by Zhang Zhongde, Vice President of Guangdong TCM Hospital.

On Feb 10th, the third national TCM team was dispatched to Jiangxia Dahuashan Outdoor Sports Center Cabin Hospital. It was composed of 209 members from Tianjin, Jiangsu, Henan, Hunan and Shaanxi. Zhang Boli, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering was appointed Honorary President of the Hospital, and Prof. Liu Qiangquan President.

As informed, besides Hubei, the other places also developed local treatment schemes following both the national scheme and the patient conditions. As of 0 o’clock Feb 11th, except for Hubei, the statistics shows that TCM has intervened in 9,682 cases, accounting for 88.7% of the confirmed cases. TCM has intervened in 1,491 discharged cases, accounting for 48.6% of the discharged. TCM has played a unique role in medical observation, clinical treatment and rehabilitation by differentiating methods.
