According to the clinical observations of patients in 4 pilot provinces, the total effective rate of Qingfei Paidu Decoction for the treatment of the novel coronavirus can reach over 90%.

It is reported that on January 27th, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, based on the clinical utility of emergency use, started a special project of Research on the Selecting of Effective TCM Prescriptions for Prevention and Treatment of Novel Coronavirus. This project has carried out clinical observation of using Qingfei Paidu Decoction in treating patients infected with novel coronavirus in four pilot provinces of Shanxi, Hebei, Heilongjiang and Shaanxi, focusing on observing symptoms such as fatigue, fever, cough, sore throat, anorexia, and changes in imaging manifestations, aiming to quickly discover a curative TCM prescription and even special effect to fight the epidemic.

According to statistics, till 00:00 on February 5th, Qingfei Paidu Decoction, with 3 days as a course of medication, has been used to treat 214 confirmed cases in the four pilot provinces, among whom, more than 60% had obvious improvement in symptoms and imaging manifestations, and 30% had stable symptoms without exacerbation. The total effective rate is more than 90%.

According to experts, Qingfei Paidu Decoction is optimized by combining classic prescriptions for treating exogenous fever caused by pathogenic cold in the Treatment of Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases by Zhang Zhongjing of the Han Dynasty. The formula is reasonable, benign in quality and mild in taste. It can be used in treating patients of mild, common and severe types. It can also be reasonably used in treating critically severe patients by taking actual physical conditions of the patients into consideration. This prescription can also be used for common cold and flu. However, this prescription is a disease treatment prescription, and it is not recommended to be used as a preventive prescription.
