In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions and the deployment of Central Leadership Group Responding to the Epidemic, Sun Chunlan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Primer of the State Council, leader of the Central Steering Group, held a symposium participated by the frontline experts and academicians of anti-epidemic diseases on April 1st, listening to the progress reports on scientific research on COVID-19 vaccines, technologies and drugs for treatment, and stressing the need to stick to the integration of clinical and scientific research, breaking down barriers, summarizing experiences, providing more support and promoting super-conventional innovation, so to provide strong scientific and technological support to overcome the epidemic.
Sun Chunlan said that in the fight against the epidemic in Wuhan, Hubei Province, some academicians and experts led the teams of scientific researchers to screen for a number of TCM drugs like "three drugs and three formulas" with obvious curative effects, in response to the need for treatment of COVID-19 in the early stage when there was no cure available. They also promoted the clinical trial of the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine, achieved breakthroughs in technologies such as plasma therapy and stem cell therapy, continuously improved the diagnosis and treatment protocol, so that the curative rate increased from 14% in the early stage to 93%. These achievements were important parts of the China Guidance to fight the epidemic, which provided a strong guarantee for the effective treatment of COVID-19, boosted the confidence of the people across the country, and demonstrated China's medical research and independent innovation capabilities.
Sun Chunlan emphasized that at present, the spread of COVID-19 in China with Wuhan as the main battlefield was basically blocked, and preventing the coronavirus from reentering the country to cause a new epidemic became the focus of epidemic prevention and control. It was necessary to give full play to the role of effective drugs and treatment technologies, accelerate the development of vaccines, and optimize the registration and approval process of clinical application, striving for a key breakthrough at an early date. We should timely learn from other countries the scientific research results, summarize and promote the "going abroad" of effective drugs and treatment technologies, so to play an active role in international cooperation in the prevention and control of COVID-19.
