[Easy locating method] 

Press the two ear canals with the two thumbs, and let the two middle fingers stretch straight up to the top of the head; the place where the fingertips meet is the DU 20.

[Efficacy and Indications] 

Belonging to du mai and being closely related to the brain, DU 20 can calm the mind and restore consciousness. It treats mental disorders such as insomnia, amnesia, neurasthenia, aphasia from apoplexy, hemiplegia, epilepsy, dementia, etc. Because it is located in the head and closely associated with the five sense organs, DU 20 can unblock the collaterals to relieve pain, scatter wind and dissipate cold, and stop vertigo. It is used to treat head and face diseases such as headaches, dizziness, parietal headache, tinnitus, deafness, or nasal congestion, that are caused by various factors such as ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang, insufficient blood and qi, and invasion of wind pathogen, etc. Located at the parietal crease, DU 20 can raise yang and “rescue from desertion” when yang has collapsed. It is used for treatment of conditions such as anal prolapse, chronic diarrhea, enuresis, gastroptosis, and uterine prolapsed. DU 20 can be used for first aid, such as shock coma, syncope and so on. In addition, it can improve memory, and treat hair loss.

[Methods] 

Generally, the point-pressing, point-kneading, and the tapping methods can be used. Point-pressing refers to pressing the tip of the thumb on DU 20, increasing the pressure from light to heavy, gradually pressing with very firm pressure. The kneading method means placing the pad or interphalangeal joint of the thumb or the middle finger on DU 20,  pressing gradually from light to heavy for 3 to 5 times, and then kneading and turning to the left and right. The tapping method is to gently hit DU 20 with a hand holding a hollow fist for about 20 times.

[Combinations of Acupoints] 

In clinical practice, DU 20 is rarely used alone, and is generally compatible with other acupoints. This not only improves its curative effect, but also expands the indications.
Together with Sishencong (EX-HN1), it can treat stroke aphasia, amnesia, dementia, neurasthenia, etc. Combined with Taiyang (EX-HN5), it can treat encephalalgia, cephalagra, parietal headache, etc. Combined with Hegu (LI 4) and Taichong (LV 3), it can treat dizziness, vertigo, high blood pressure, dim-sighted symptom and so on. Combined with Shenque (RN 8), it can treat diarrhea with deficiency, chronic diarrhea, rectal prolapse, etc. Combined with Neiguan (PC 6), it can treat restlessness, insomnia, dreaminess, depression, arrhythmia, etc. Combined with Qihai (RN 6), it treats metroptosis and gastroptosis, and together with Shuigou (DU 26), it can be used for first aid for shock coma and so on.
